Among patients who underwent total shoulder arthroplasty, those who were obese experienced longer hospital stays, an increased risk of postoperative respiratory complications and higher costs, according to study results. Using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample, researchers retrospectively analyzed 31,924 patients who underwent total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) between 1998 and 2008. The researchers used multivariate analysis with logistic regression modeling to compare patients based on BMI for various outcomes.
